Seasonal Style Edit

It’s that time of year where we all want to look and feel fabulous and have fun with friends and family.

There are so many different events to dress for throughout December and into the New Year and it can be a bit daunting deciding what to wear on different occasions so that you feel comfortable but also stylish and appropriate for the occasion.

Well fear not, I’m here to give you some practical and stylish advice to get you through the whole of the season. Whether you are having a small, relaxed Christmas day at home, a houseful of family, or a glamorous day at a hotel, there will be something in my Seasonal Style Edit for you.

My style edit is the result of a fun afternoon spent at John Lewis in Oxford with their Style Guru Mechac, we had great fun putting together these outfits for you and I hope you like our choices. You will find all the brands used at the end of this blog.

Girl’s Night Out/Date Night

‘I think I’ll just wear jeans and a nice top’!! How many of us have said this to our friends when we talk about what we’re wearing on our Girl’s Night Out. So how about mixing things up a bit this year and instead of jeans swapping them for a pair of leather, pleather or coated jeans. There are so many in the shops at the moment. They can be dressed up, dressed down and are super comfortable. Don’t forget to add a bit of bling, I’ve styled this outfit with a sequin top and a leather jacket which gives loads of glamour but also not too over the top.  Add a pair of funky boots and you’re ready to party.

 

 

 

Drinks Party

Whether you are the hostess with the mostest and have your own drinks party where you invite friends and family over or if you’ve received an invite this can be a tricky one to decide what to wear. You phone the hostess to see what the dress code is and she says just come as you are! No dress code can sometimes be harder than a strict dress code so here is my suggestion. A pair of smart trousers or leather look trousers and a great blouse will see you through all of these occasions. Again with this I’ve added the gold boots to give that festive feel without going over the top. A bag with a shoulder strap is a great idea so you have your hands free for a glass of bubbly and a cocktail sausage!!!  NB. Remember to wear a clean pair of socks with no holes in case your host asks you to take your shoes off indoors.

 

 

Christmas/New Year’s Eve Party

This is your excuse to go full on glam. For me a sparkly dress will always fit the brief. But you could also wear a good basic dress and ramp up the accessories. A word of warning though, there’s no need to do both, if you have a fabulous party dress then don’t overdo the accessories as you run the risk of giving the Christmas Tree a run for its money. Here are my favourite dresses. One is a gorgeous blue and gold with straps, you can always wear a pashmina or small jacket if you are worried about showing off your arms, and the second one already has sleeves so no need to be trying to hide any wobbly bits! I’ve styled them both with some beautiful gold sandals which don’t take anything away from the dress.

 

 

Christmas Day

Do you prefer to dress up on Christmas Day or a more casual look? Either way it’s fun to wear something with a bit of Christmas bling and this skirt is perfect for both. If you want to go glamorous then add a velvet top and some beautiful jewellery and if you would rather be less dressy then pop on a sweatshirt or jumper, it would also look great with a pair of cool trainers. This skirt is so versatile you will find lots of different ways to wear it.

 

Boxing Day

Most of us have a chilled out Boxing Day, full of leftover turkey, putting your feet up and watching films. The Boxing Day walk is also a tradition in many families. Make your walk extra special with a super snuggly scarf in a bright colour to keep the Christmas cheer going. I absolutely love this look with a bright jumper and scarf, I can picture going for a refreshing walk and coming home with rosy cheeks and having a hot chocolate and snuggle up on the sofa.

 

 

Duvet Day

Christmastime for many of us is the time we have off work and can recharge our batteries for the coming year so I always try to have a duvet day where all I do is chill in my PJs. As a personal stylist I end up having to dress up and wear make-up a lot so having a day where I don’t have to think about what I’m wearing and giving my skin a rest is such a delight. One of the things I like to do to make this extra special is to treat myself to some new PJs or a onesie. This one is super cute and so soft, with a pair of snuggly slippers my duvet day will be complete. Why not give it a try if you can, you’ll feel better for it I’m sure.

 

 

New Year’s Day Chill

New Year’s Day sees the end of the Christmas season and whether you are relieved or already looking forward to doing it all again next year it can be a day where you want to relax and reflect.  After all the festivities and overeating a comfy leisure suit is the perfect outfit for New Year’s Day. This one is really comfortable but also has a bit of colour with it. I’ve styled the pants here with a matching leisure top and a co-ordinating sweater. Both will make this last day of the season chilled out and comfortable. I’ve styled these with a really cute pair of trainers as well to keep a last bit of seasonal bling!

 

 

Christmas Shopping/New Year Sales

It’s a struggle to decide what to wear to go shopping as it’s generally cold out at this time of year, you then go into the shops and they’re hot so you end up coat on/coat off all day. Instead, why not try a layered look. Give me a hat and I’m a happy girl, as you can see from this look I’ve put together for your Christmas and New Year shopping style. The cashmere jumper and scarf will keep you warm but it’s also easy to loosen up and take the scarf and hat off if you overheat. A cross body bag leaves your hands free and a pair of coloured gloves will keep you warm as well as looking super stylish and colourful.

 

 

 

 

Finishing Touches

Boots

I have styled a number of these outfits with these gorgeous metallic boots which are both comfortable and stylish at the same time. They can be worn with a dressy look like the sparkly skirt, or a dressed down look like pleather trousers or jeans.

 

 

 

Accessories

Some pretty jewellery and a glittery clutch will take you from a Christmas Ball to going to the pub for Christmas drinks. Well if you can’t bling up at Christmas when can you?!?!
